Artistic Statement

My sonic creations exist as a postmodern practice, informing an exploration of hauntology, lo-fidelity and aesthetics of digital decay. In my work I craft euphoric, orgasmic and psychedelic soundscapes that draw from the rich lineage of minimalist new age composition, sample-based hip hop and synthetic experimentation, channeling the spirits of creatives like Steve Reich, Jon Hassell, J Dilla and Wendy Carlos in my works. I embrace both analogue and digital methodologies, crafting sonic landscapes that feel at once hazy, fragmented, dissonant and immersive.

My approach to sound design is rooted in a deep exploration of textures and imperfections. I employ techniques from modular synthesis, tape looping, microsampling and granular processing to manipulate live instrumentation from voice and guitar. Mixing this and the ethos of 90s sample-based hip hop creation with the possibilities brought in with Max for Live allows me to manipulate production methods in unconventional ways. The mixture of analogue and computerised equipment allows me to unite the warmth of a cassette tape with the precision of a digital sequencer, crossing the bridge between the past and present to create soundscapes that are alien and decayed, yet familiar and vibrant.

In my production work, I have collaborated with rappers and songwriters, crafting fragmented, abstract beats that serve as a canvas for their storytelling. These compositions evoke a surreal and acidic atmosphere, channeling the glitch of an N64 cartridge tilt and the warm husk of a disposable camera. Aesthetically, my music is deeply tied to concepts of digital imperfection to reflect a world where human memory and media artifacts live in conjunction with one another; I aim to bring solace to listeners by celebrating these phenomena with my mixture of hip hop and electroacoustic improvisation. My work invites listeners to experience bursts of noise, new age textures and glitchy beats in an environment where the organic and synthetic merge together. From my first project, “4y3”, to the present, I continue to refine my artistic language, challenging the boundaries of genre while crafting deeply personal and exploratory sonic experiences.
